Saturday was another great day and night of progress for Charles Lefrancois and the SR75 Racing Team with a fantastic 18th place in a tough main event.
Charles’ progress during the trip is great as he has found some confidence to push for fast laps during qualifying and this showed as he topped group B by around 1.2 seconds to move up to 16th overall in times which is fantastic to see.
Making the night show and pushing for the main event is always key and with Charles confidence growing we looked for a great start in the heat race to push for direct qualifying into the main. Charles got a great start and ran 6th out of the first turn ahead of names like Roczen and Musquin. Lap one seen some aggressive moves which dropped Charles down the order making a trip to the lcq necessary. Another great start saw Charles run at the front with Alex Ray as the two Suzuki’s ran 1-2. Charles began to ‘race safe’ to conserve energy at the high altitude of Denver to make the main with no mistakes.
As with every main event qualification performance the euphoria is evident and although we want Charles to push to his maximum every lap we can all appreciate just how tough it is out there on track to stay focussed and race to the chequers in the tension of the last chance qualifier… We were all elated for Charles again and after the disappointment of missing out by one spot last week in Nashville this gave the entire team a boost.
Charles again got a great start in the main to run within sight of the lead group only to be t boned on lap 2 sending him to the back of the pack by 15 seconds. The young man gave what he had to get back as far as he could and in the end it was 18th place and points on the board.
What a night and what a performance.
“I am happy of course and I am a little angry with my performance in the main event… I feel I had the speed today to push hard for all the main event and I saved some energy for this to give all. When I am t boned I am disappointed as I know every guy is full speed and is difficult for recover positions. I feel fantastic and my SR75 Suzuki is working so good. I want to thank my team, all our sponsors and my mechanic Blake for a great day. I am happy and I want work hard for another progression in the Las Vegas Finale in a couple of weeks”
Geoff Walker Team Owner/Manager
“Charles deserves a big pat on the back. This guy is working so hard for this it has left everyone in the pits in awe of his determination to progress and succeed. The guys have been through some tough times in the last 3 weeks and Charly has never dropped his head. We look for improvement and Charles is becoming more comfortable in this, the very highest level in our ‘world’ of Supercross. To see Charles and our race bike mixing it with the best is off the scale cool and we love every second of this. Thanks as always to all involved and we look forward to the work and preparation leading up to Vegas”
