Birmingham AXUK Rounds 3 and 4
Solid weekend for Charles Lefrancois sees him retain the AX Class championship lead going into the final two rounds at Wembley Arena in 3 weeks time.
Both riders were fired up and buzzing for rounds 3 and 4 of the AXUK series after an amazing round 2 in Belfast with Charles taking the superfinal victory and AX Class (450) victory and championship lead with Nico coming good with 3rd overall 250 class and 5th in the combined Superfinal. We had big hopes for Birmingham as this has always been a brilliant venue for the team.
Nico came into the weekend after a little sickness bug but he was fired up and ready to do battle alongside Charles who is always ready to go about his business on the track.
Charles was 2nd quickest after sharing top spots in the two sessions so this put him in a good position for the night show while Nico worked hard to secure a superb 5th overall in times in his class.
The 450 finals seen Charles ride with his usual solid professionalism as he blasted his RM-Z450SR race bike into a great start on the first final only to be ridden out in the first turn leaving him almost last. He fought back to 4th losing valuable points in the process but this could have been much worse.
Final 2 seen a holeshot followed by a solid ride to come home in 2nd place and 2nd gate pick in 450 for the Superfinal.
Nico battled hard all night and simply ran into trouble at every step leaving him with yet another trip to the head to head and lcc races where the disadvantage of racing a 250 really comes to the fore. Nico would not make the Superficial in a big blow to our team title hopes.
Charles gated at the head of the field to show his incredible starting skill and the racing at the head of the field was once again world class with skill and respect winning through. A hard 15 laps with Charles not really finding his rhythm meant his solid and brilliant podium 3rd place was a great ride.
Charles scoring an amazing Pole position for the first time in his AXUK career was a highlight as he is not known for his ability to hang it out for one lap of wildness. This was great fun and brought a big smile to everyones face in the team.
Nico was able to hit out another 5th in qualifying times to set him up for another shot at some good starts and solid 250 finals.
Charles would run with 2 very controlled 2nd places in his 450 finals as he tried to find his morning lighting speed again.
Nico had a disasterous evening with 6-8 scores giving him another journey through the head to head and LCQ where once again he finished one place outside qualification.
The superfinal seen yet another holeshot fro Charles on his incredible race bike and some great racing followed as the best of the best battled for the top positions.
Charles was just a fraction off his Belfast speed in the Superfinals but as usual he gave 110% which is all we ask for to bring himself home in a solid 4th place to retain an 8 pointed in the Championship on a difficult weekend.
“I know I am a little disappointed after this weekend but I give my all. Sometimes is just a small difference and this weekend I concentrated on making solid results instead of just going for it.Wembley I will be ready to go for it and give everything for this championship. I have experience of racing with the best and I know I can beat the best around and I am comfortable with my team, my bike and my lead in the championship. I cannot wait for Wembley, I like this race… Thanks to my crew, the organisation and all the fans…. Lets Go!
“This has been an up and down weekend and with our vast experience I know I can make my assessments and we will be ready for Wembley. Charles is an amazing guy and his ’solid’ approach to every race will see his preparation for the final two rounds be where they need to be. We produce perfect bikes for these guys to race thanks to Suzuki GB and all our technical and financial partners and we like nothing more than seeing these guys give everything win or lose…. We are here to race, show the guys skills and entertain the brilliant fans of Arenacross and we love nothing more than that. Thanks as always to Charles and Nico and of course our sponsors and the fans. See you all in Wembley. Lets fill the place and make it one to remember with great racing from great athletes….”
